Update from Care Page: Appointments!

This post has been copied from our care page from April 3rd, 2010

Appointments Appointments Appointments Appointments....jeeze, we are getting really sick of appointments! Tuesday I meet with a social worker to get Brady hooked up with TEFRA which will pay for his ABA (applied behavioral analysis) 100% after our parental monthly co payment. Thursday I meet with our family med MD to decide if and which immunizations we want to give Brady, since he will be going to a center based program, we want to protect him. THAT is something Steve and I are agonizing over...since we suspect one of his shots may have been what caused this! Then on Friday we meet with the folks from the school district AGAIN...but this time it will be the whole team all at once to discuss what they think would be a good plan for Brady. It took 4 appointments and several different people, an autism specialist, a speech pathologist, a teacher, and an intake worker all coming to the house on different days to evaluate Brady's needs before they could all put their heads together and figure out a plan. The director for the Autism center, and the teacher he will have in the fall will also be there on Friday so we can all be on the same page as far as the plan goes. Hopefully we are nearing the end of all the appointments...we are all starting to get a little burned out on all the interruptions in our daily routine. If you know anything about autism...you know changes in the routine are NOT welcomed. So we have had a spike in behavior...or as we like to call them "meltdown" moments. When someone can't talk to you, and tell you how upset they are, all they can do is scream at you. It is becoming very trying. My poor little guy...hopefully once he gets into the autism program, and has his time at the school, things will turn around for him and he will settle in to his new routine and start the learning!!
